Spare a thought…

School has broken up now
Their nativity plays all ended
It’s time to get out that stocking
That every year gets mended.

The fridges and larders are bursting
With food for the Christmas table
As we celebrate again this year
The miracle in that far away stable.

But spare a thought for the less well-fed
As you eat your well-earned dinner
For while you’re gaining unwanted fat
In poverty people get thinner.

Huddled in rags and blankets for warmth
In a doss-house in a back street somewhere
The people who live in Dead End Street
Will miss out on Christmas Fayre.

It isn’t your fault, nor oft even theirs
It’s simply the way some things are
But just a few pence for a coffee
Shows kindness can travel quite far.

Silently in love…

old2

Silence is the killer
It slowly breaks you up
It says so much in nothing
It drains the loving cup.
It makes the days seem endless
It makes the nights so dark
It makes what’s living seem so dead
It takes away the spark.

And yet, there is a silence
Twixt lovers like me and you
That simply fills with love unique
Like that between us two.

For us there is no hollow
No void that can’t be reached
Our love fills all the spaces
And not a drop has leeched.

Just a thought…

Remember to say good morning to the Sun every day. Even if you cannot see him, he is warming someone’s back somewhere. Remember too, to say hello each evening to the moon. She lights a path for someone every night, even if for a while, it isn’t you. Harken to the wind which blows away all the filth which we poor fools inflict upon the atmosphere every minute of every day, then wonder why sometimes we can hardly breathe. Nurture the rains which wash away the poisons that we spill across the land in order to make that extra profit, and let us all be thankful for the bounty that still, despite our best efforts to spoil her, the land yields each crop season to feed us. Know too, that there is enough, it’s just not too evenly spread. There are those who enjoy the making of profit from someone else’s misfortune…those you should not say good day to.

Little Tim and your missing toy…

elf-santa

The sleigh was loaded and ready
Except for one present – for you
The elves had been searching, high and low
And they just didn’t know quite what to do.

Santa was dressed in his finest red
Ho ho ho, all nicely warmed through
But he just couldn’t leave any presents behind
Well! It’s just not what Santa would do.

They looked again in the cellar
They searched in the workshop once more
Soon the time was getting dangerously near
When Santa must head for the door.

Just then there was a cry ‘YIPPEE’
A wondrous cry of joy
Tim, the smallest of the elves
Had found your Christmas toy.

O Little Tim, you clever elf
You’ve really saved the day
And if you’d care to join me
You can help me in the sleigh.

But Little Tim had vanished
From him there was no peep
T’was a happy Santa who found him
In his little elf cot, fast asleep.

That black dog…

Monday blues
Swept in so dark, on a tide of raw emotion
Kept at bay by pharmaceutical potion
Please excuse.

Winter chilled days
Where even now the black dogs starts to call
Who knows what state of mind may yet befall
Darkest phase.

Winter scene
Nor even a drop of snow to lift the soul
No robin red-breast here in Christmas role
Cold, wet sheen.

Note made in journal
To look at days as these not in despair
And recognise that pain is spread unfair
Hope springs eternal.

Beyond a title…

Help earth_edited

In these modern, bitter, violent wars
Where none at all shall ever win
Words that once came from the cross
Though oft repeated wear so thin.
Yet once more I beg You listen
I supplicate with eyes that glisten
And begging in sorrow I ask of You
Forgive us Lord
for we know not what we do.
