Heads, you lose…

Speeding along not a care in the world
the young man and his beautiful girl
driving in an open-topped E-type Jag
they were happy
………………………….and life was a whirl.

They were racing along the motorway
fast approaching Gravelly Hill
when a tanker jack-knifed in front of them
……….I can hear their screaming still.

They had nowhere to go but under
the trailer, however, was too low
and I, in a car a short distance back
saw both of their heads suddenly
…………………………………………………go.

One head rolled onto the hard shoulder
and sat there staring right back at me
while the other bounced over the railing
and fell into Witton
……………………………….for all there to see.

It put me off my lunch I can tell you
for that’s where I was going at the time
and if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s totally true
it would be a case of the ridiculous
……………………………….from the sublime.

Just for a short while…

Callum - Jaguar
Callum – Jaguar

Open roads
favourite places
bombing along
in the car
window open
…music…loud.

Thoughts my own
unadulterated by
responsibilities
if just for a
journey.

Music…my choice
loud…did I say…loud
carefree
for a while.

Long straight
road
flat
out.

No other
cars
in sight.

Perfect.

Refreshed.

Journey’s end.

Reality
hits
home.

Responsibilities.

Refreshed…it’s alright now.

This is just something a bit different.

It’s something of an experiment really.

It’s Not Always What You Think…

He feels the pull of his aching heart
His resistance was always a sham
He gives himself up to her gladly
You live once so he cares not a damn.

Why had he resisted these long years
The big cat he’d always admired
He decided he just wouldn’t wait anymore
And bought the Jag on the day he retired.

This is just for a bit of fun, our load and our spirits need a slight lift occasionally.

“It’s Not There.”

MeltingSun

I delighted in hearing the interlude
Having heard the prelude too
Whilst waiting for the postlude though
My mind ran all askew.
Where is the ‘lude’ I began to think
For there is a post and a pre
Why are my Chambers and OED
Keeping the ‘lude’ from me!

It was then I thought of Phill Jupitus
I thought that was only fair
As I’m sure he’d be just as puzzled as I
To observe that “It’s not there!”
I’ve searched for it here and I’ve searched for it there
All avenues have been fiercely pursued
And in the end I’m forced to concede
Less ‘Pre’ and ‘Post’ there’s no ‘LUDE’.

This is a bit of fun based on the highly amusing session of QI where the said Mr Jupitus was able to tell New Zealanders that when the sun is bouncing off the road and impeding their vision they can be safely assured that “It’s not there”.

The Global Traffic Jam

Swirling lights, rushing rain
Driving headlong, motorway pain.

Getting there tired and bleak
Sometimes too stressed out to speak.

Roads congested far too much
The town and country travelling crutch.

Hell on earth is in the car
That’s in a jam and can’t move far.

Fifty feet the last move made
Cars around me variously splayed.

Once again grind to a halt
On thinking brains like common assault.

Will I get there – who can tell!
Life moves slow in concrete hell.
