Emboldened by passion he took the first steps
And crossed the floor to ask her to dance
But standing before her his courage all gone
By the end of his spluttering he’d lost his chance.
But wait, she said yes to his amateur wooing
And together they stepped onto the floor
It was as if they were made from two halves of a whole
They knew they’d dance like that for evermore.
They danced all that night and never let go
Talked all the next day about all kinds of things
If you asked either one why they liked the other so
They’d just tell you they made their heart sing.
They’ve danced through their lives through the pain and the smiles
They are always together side by side
Though now grey at the temples from many long years
On the dance floor they still perfectly glide.
